Why listen to GOP enemies opine on what’s good for Republicans in Texas?

Pratt on TexasSome days members of the political-coverage media cause more laughter than frustration. The Texas Tribune’s liberal columnist Ross Ramsey is a recent case for his Friday column headlined “Analysis: The biggest threat to Texas Republicans? Texas Republicans.”

First, Ramsey doesn’t do analysis in a scientific sense he writes opinion, Left-leaning opinion, for the outlet but the Tribune knows that for many, calling their opinion columns analysis somehow makes them more important or trustworthy. That alone is a bit of manipulation which shows how the thank-the-sponsors news outlet works and sees its audience.

As to the meat of the Ramsey headline “The biggest threat to Texas Republicans? Texas Republicans.” I’ve a few comments.

A healthy political party has really big primary fights and that’s how it is supposed to work

First, it is always humorous to find enemies of the Republican Party, who are not part of the Republican Party, talking seriously as if they are expert on what is happening in the Republican Party. And it begs incredulity when these type of folk opine on what is good or bad for the GOP.

Why listen to them? They work for the other side.

Another point that needs be made is that parties have a nominating process, in the case of the GOP it is a primary election, for the purpose of fighting it out over who will represent the party on the ballot in the General Election as well as what will be the philosophical balance of the party.

We’ll all be treated to stories on how unusual is this fight with Governor Abbott and others making endorsements and the like. But it’s all a bunch of hooey.

A healthy political party has really big primary fights and that’s how it is supposed to work – no matter how distasteful such is to the insider power-elites who never want the boat they think they command rocked.
