Walking away from a business is not enough

Great news! Furr’s has removed the 30.06 signs which ban licensed concealed carry in its restaurants and your voice was heard by the firm. There are two reasons I brought the posting by Furr’s to the show.

First is the irony of a Texas cafeteria chain posting such a ban given that our concealed carry laws arose from a massacre at a cafeteria in Killeen in 1991 in which about the same number were murdered and injured as were in Sunday’s church massacre.

Action of conservatives taking business elsewhere may indeed prove injurious to some firms but it is an ill-advised leap of faith to believe businesses will understand why their business dropped.

Second was because simply voting with one’s feet and taking business elsewhere is not enough. Businesses need hear from customers on issues like this. If business management does not hear from us, they will only hear from the Left.

Action of conservatives taking business elsewhere may indeed prove injurious to some firms but it is an ill-advised leap of faith to believe businesses will understand why their business dropped.  Large and small businesses alike are often horrible at actually measuring and understanding what brings them and loses them business.

Put it like this, if a business was clearly aware of the things it does wrong would it continue doing such things? But day after day we see the same poor decisions and actions taken. This has been one of my lifelong areas of expertise and I can tell you without hesitation  that most enterprises do not often have a clear sense of where failures exist in relation to customers, advertising, and marketing.

It’s not enough to walk away if we want businesses to reconsider and reform. We must explain politely and clearly to owners and management people why we are walking away. Otherwise, we are hoping they will properly guess why we don’t come back and that doesn’t much help.
