No honor in Joe Straus’ terms as speaker

Pratt on TexasSelf-described moderate Republican and Texas Speaker of the House Joe Straus is throwing in the towel announcing that he will not run for a sixth, record-setting, term as speaker.

“I believe that in a representative democracy, those who serve in public office should do so for a time, not for a lifetime,” Straus declared maintaining his hubris and arrogance even on his way out as speaker and a member of the House. It’s utter bull-bleep to act as if you are for some type of limited service when you have already stuck around in the office as long as anyone else in Texas history.

To those of you who want to jump on the press’ and insiders’ bandwagon praising Straus for honorable service as speaker of the Texas House, let me remind you that there is nothing honorable about Straus’ service.

Straus was a relatively unknown two-term liberal Republican from San Antonio when, as part of the gang of eleven anti-conservative members who schemed at the home of Representative Byron “Obama” Cook to torpedo the speakership of Tom Craddick of Midland, the first GOP Speaker since the 1800’s, Straus became the standard-bearer for the Republican traitors in January of 2009.

Due to Obama crushing weak Republican nominee John McCain, Texas Democrats were only a few seats from busting the GOP majority in the Texas House in 2009. Straus and his cabal of conservative-hating schemers pledged enough allegiance to the Democrats to get almost all of their caucus vote for Straus in order to depose Craddick.

There is much more to say about Straus not running for re-election as speaker but the one thing all Republicans should remember is that there was nothing honorable in his becoming speaker and it remained that way through a record-tying five terms.
