According to his hometown newspaper in Illinois, the Belleville News-Democrat, the shooter of those at the Republican Congressional baseball practice, James T. Hodgkinson belonged to a number of anti-Republican groups, including one called “Terminate the Republican Party.”

The paper reported that he was a member of a number of anti-Republican groups on Facebook, including:

  • “The Road to Hell is Paved with Republicans”
  • “Donald Trump is not my President”
  • “President Bernie Sanders”
  • “Illinois Berners United to Resist Trump”
  • “Boycott the Republican Party”
  • “Expose Republican Fraud”
  • “Terminate the Republican Party”

He voted in the Democrat primary in 2016; had been a protester at Leftwing anti-wealth events; was a common writer of letters to the editor, and; appeared to be of the Left’s mainstream in his letters and posts. He could put thoughts together and argue policy which is rare among deranged kooks.

…the progressive movement is different from liberalism. Like socialism, progressivism has a strain of revolutionary thought inherent to it.

This begs the question of just how prevalent revolutionary ideas are among American progressives. Historically, American liberals have not been revolutionary and were also anti-communist. But the progressive movement is different from liberalism. Like socialism, progressivism has a strain of revolutionary thought inherent to it.

Any movement motivated by envy of others or a desire to manage the lives of others, central to both progressivism and socialism, should be avoided at all costs and so should the followers thereof.
