Pratt on Texas from Alpine, even higher-ground!

If all goes as planned, I should be broadcasting Pratt on Texas today from Alpine, that lovely little town of about six thousand that is home to Sul Ross University, the incredible Kokernot baseball field, the original Reata Restaurant started by the owner of the CF Ranch.

I think of the Alpine, Fort Davis, and Marfa-area as the beautiful triangle of Texas – the Texas of the movies, of what people around the world think of when they think cowboys and the Lone Star State.

Alpine sits at almost forty-five hundred feet above sea level and is the seat of giant Brewster County. What I like about Brewster County, aside from being named after the Secretary of War for the Republic of Texas Henry Percy Brewster, is that it is the largest county in Texas and over three times the physical size of Delaware, Joe Biden’s state, and bigger than even New England’s mighty Connecticut.

Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park are in southern Brewster County as is Terlingua with its famous chili cookoffs.

My favorite in this remote part of Texas is just up the road in Jeff Davis County, Fort Davis which is the north point of the triangle. The liberals have overtaken the small town Marfa which makes up the west point of the triangle and then Alpine is the east point of the triangle. Alpine, with Sul Ross, is where you go to the big store to get things but there’s still no Walmart.

I’ll be addressing the Brewster County Republican Women’s Club and complimenting them on the fact that Republican Will Hurd was re-elected to Congress over Alpine-native Pete Gallego this past election.

We’ll remember the anniversary of the Massacre at Goliad on the show too so be listening.
