Will this point make it through the muck of the campaign for the White House?

I’m writing and recording this morning update before we’ve all seen the media spectacle known as the Presidential Debate. And in anticipation of the spectacle I can guess that it will be replete with the sort of base behavior we’ve seen all campaign but, my hope is that some substantive points will get through the muck to the minds of the American people.

One point is just how vulnerable we are to death and destruction from followers of Islamic jihad who are not just butchering the innocent in other parts of the world but who have followers in this country who have planned the same, done the same, or will do so in the future.

On the issue of Islamic-inspired terrorism, it’s time to set aside the tired ideas of the Left with which they try and treat this issue as being equivalent to dealing with a rogue state and its political motivations. The war in which we find ourselves is a war against the return of dark medieval forces which seek to destroy self-government, personal liberty, religious freedom, and the advancement of knowledge.

On Monday Brandon Darby reported: “Leaked documents with sensitive FBI data exclusively obtained by Breitbart Texas reveal that 7,712 terrorist encounters occurred within the United States in one year and that many of those encounters occurred near the U.S.-Mexico border.”

We don’t need bigotry; we don’t need xenophobia; we don’t need this to be about whether there is value in immigration. We need the American people to understand the simple idea that our porous borders and horrible visa-tracking is putting them, their families, and the nation as a whole at serious risk.
