An almost open border is poisoning our communities

I’ve suggested this week that one should keep border security top-of-mind when voting in November and spoken of the deep rot that is growing in the once wonderful culture of our neighbors in Mexico due to the drug cartels.

Some may ignorantly think this just affects those people on or near the border forgetting that all of us pay the price in taxes, corruption, lost economic activity, and other societal problems which come from such.

The horrible affects of a near lawless border are in your town and city too.

…every drug addict they help create; every murder over drugs and money they influence, and; every local break-in, robbery or worse that is inspired by the need of drugs or money for drugs, is partly attributable to our near open border.

In a story about two cartel-linked smugglers, Breitbart Texas reported: “While court records have not revealed which Mexican drug cartel the [duo] worked with, the group is responsible for moving large quantities of marijuana from the border city of El Paso to the Texas Panhandle” towns of Cactus and Dumas. “Once in the area, [smugglers] would ensure the loads made it to a ranch near Gruver, where cargo would then be transported to customers.”

Just the work of two smugglers shows how the cartel-trade is active in and around our homes and there are likely thousands more of these folk. And every drug addict they help create; every murder over drugs and money they influence, and; every local break-in, robbery or worse that is inspired by the need of drugs or money for drugs, is partly attributable to our near open border.

We are not a secure nation if we can’t effectively police or border. And, we are fools if we turn a blind eye to what an open border brings into our state, communities and families.
