City of Lubbock action shows disregard for good faith efforts

One of the reasons people dislike local government and many of its officials is how it and they behave. Take for example a case with which I’m familiar in Lubbock:

A local corporation pays the city monthly for two trash dumpsters which sit behind a locked gate on that entity’s property. The city has been providing the service for a decade, maybe much longer, and members of the corporation rely on the service and pay well for it – a commercial, not a residential service.

Up jumps a neighboring property owner who decided to spend significant time bothering city officials to have the trash dumpsters removed and service stopped for reasons that are still hard to figure. While still taking the money for the service; not having provided any official notice; not providing a cause of action, and; not engaging in an ounce of good faith communication, bureaucrats sent staff to seize the dumpsters.

This demonstrates how bureaucrats will take decisions without following even the most basic procedures simply to get a barking-yap-dog activist to leave them alone – even at the expense of all other parties acting in good faith. This is the power of the activist, even the unjust one.

Had these official bothered to investigate the claims made; had they provided written notice citing a cause of action; had they done anything but bully the unaware innocent parties after taking a decision to harm them, all might have been easily resolved. But, they didn’t.

In this Lubbock case, an third party activist who doesn’t own the property in question and has no standing to speak for the entity involved, maneuvered  assistant city managers and staff to take action without any consult with the actual paying customer.

Had these official bothered to investigate the claims made; had they provided written notice citing a cause of action; had they done anything but bully the unaware innocent parties after taking a decision to harm them, all might have been easily resolved. But, they didn’t. City officials acted as self-interested bullies and now don’t understand why the victims don’t just play along and roll-over to their intimidation.

No wonder so many come to have distrust and dislike of local government.
