“A soldier celebrating Independence Day weekend in New Braunfels ended up in a firefight in an unexpected place — Prince Solms Park — early Monday morning.

“The soldiers told officers that they became aware of the handgun when they heard the slide from the gun being racked and they saw the man aiming the weapon in their direction.
“The soldiers said ran to their vehicles for cover as the suspect began firing. One soldier was able to get to his vehicle and retrieve his personal .40 caliber handgun and provided cover fire for his fellow soldiers.
“Police say the suspect shooter fired 19 rounds, striking two of the soldiers’ vehicles a total of three times. The soldier who was returning fire shot seven rounds, one of which struck the suspect in the right elbow.”…
