More absurdity from the Texas professoriate

Here’s yet another story from the absurdity file and not surprisingly it comes from a Texas university. The headline? “UH faculty suggest steering clear of some topics if students armed.”

“With students potentially carrying weapons after Aug. 1, University of Houston faculty members may want to avoid sensitive subjects or drop certain topics from their curriculum altogether, a forum of professors suggested recently,” reported the Houston Chronicle.

“A slide shown at a recent discussion of a new state law, which will allow licensed individuals to carry concealed handguns on campus, says faculty may want to “not ‘go there’ ” to avoid creating a tense situation,” the story continued. “This echoes concerns voiced by professors across the state that allowing guns into the classroom will limit academic freedoms and inhibit discussion of sometimes touchy subjects.”

The concealed carry on campus issue has been quite useful in demonstrating the lack of intellect and rational thought among the credentialed, lettered-classes.

This is absurd on so many angles with the first being that with concealed carry, there is no way for these wimp profs to know whether someone is armed. Just as they don’t currently know if anyone is armed illegally on campus – which we know happens at U of H as there have been armed assaults and robberies on campus.

Another of the obvious absurdities is the blindness to twenty years of concealed carry in Texas not producing the results these nebbish professors expect. Hundreds of thousands of Americans legally carry firearms every day and yet don’t pop off and shoot people when discussing sensitive subjects, having arguments, or anything else. It is criminals who do such and they already had guns on campus without the law.

The concealed carry on campus issue has been quite useful in demonstrating the lack of intellect and rational thought among the credentialed, lettered-classes.
