“Road Diet” & San Antonio will put you on it.

Pratt,

I was aghast listening to what some of the San Antonio City Council members had to say about the latest trend in urban traffic planning: Road diet. Basically, a four lane street is narrowed down to two lanes for traffic and two lanes for bicycles. Here is a quote from East side Council woman Ivy Taylor:  “Unless we figure out some sort of behavioral adjustment to figure out that speeding is dangerous, then one of the ways that we can address speeding is through the road diet.” Obviously the key phrase is highlighted in red.  Really ? Behavior adjustment ? I’m pretty sure that my behavior is not what needs adjusting here.

And this from Obama’s next (apparently) HUD Secretary, Mayor Julian Castro:  “The policy of the City of San Antonio is that we are going to build a strong bike network,” Castro said. “We will not ask permission before taking this action, just like we don’t ask permission before we repair roads.”  In other words, “government knows better than you citizens, so screw you.”

San Antonio is my favorite large Texas City to visit. But these latest actions by the San Antonio City Council to further erode our liberty just make my stomach turn. Certainly it will affect the frequency with which my wife and I visit this great Texas City.

I would love to hear your comments regarding this latest assault right here in our beloved Great State of Texas on our freedom and liberty.

It is not governments place to tell me how to live my life and get from point A to point B. And how healthy I am or I am not it not the city councils buisness.
